After considering the current situation with the Covid-19 virus, Ohio Randonneurs has decided to suspend all rides until further notice. RUSA is allowing for a break in the R-12 and P-12 programs so current attempts can continue once it is determined that it is safe to resume our events. In collaboration with the ACP, they have allowed us to reschedule any ACP rides on the calendar to a later date. We will update information about future rides when we know more. Thank you for your interest in randonneuring in Ohio
The 2019 Ohio Randonneur flèche took place May 4-5. Two teams rode, one each from Indiana and Detroit. The Indiana team, Sagamores of the Wabash, had six riders (one couple on a tandem); they rode 361 km and faced crosswinds and around 12 hours of rain. The Detroit team, Rando Punks 2019, counted only three raindrops. As happens in events like the flèche, the Detroit team also enjoyed a consistent tailwind. One rider abandoned at the first control after entering Ohio, leaving four riders to finish. One Detroit rider drove over from Cleveland to the start. He maintained the history of having at least token representation in the Ohio flèche by a rider from Ohio.
The 2020 event is tentatively planned for the first weekend in May, the 2nd and 3rd. Put it on your long-range calendar.
Ohio Randonneurs did not submit the date for the 2018 Flèche by the deadline of October 1 2017. I recently learned of this. Since then I have worked with RUSA and ACP officials to get ACP approval for teams and riders who complete the flèche. The effort was successful. On the calendar the flèche may be listed as a RUSA Arrow but will be recorded with ACP as a sanctioned flèche when results are submitted. The 2018 OR flèche will meet the requirement for R-5000 and R-10000 recognition. So wait no longer; form your team, submit your registration ([ddownload id=”3427″ text=”download here”]) and send in your proposed route. I apologize for the uncertainty – and am pleased that the ride will now be official with ACP.
